It is important that parents listen to the views expressed by their children, Sri Murugan Centre (SMC) director Datuk Dr M. Thambirajah said.
Tamil Nesan reported that Dr Thambirajah had told parents that they could decide later whether the views expressed by their children were acceptable.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the five-year educational development programme for Indian students who are taking the SPM examinations in Kuala Lumpur.
“Parents usually assume that their children are ignorant and will not listen to the views of their children,” he said, adding that while education is being provided in schools and at SMC, parents must ensure that love and support are given at home.
He said that it was important that parents resolve their differences with their children through discussions and that they should shower love so that the children will have a conducive environment to concentrate on their studies.
He also said parents must not load their problems on their children, but instead work hard for the betterment of their children and encourage them to excel in their studies, as this would be their stepping stone for success in the future.
